Fruit and veggies are a big part of your life

This isn’t your first time being told to eat your veggies. But time and time again, there’s some evidence supporting the difference this longevity secret can make to your life expectancy.

A study by the Imperial College in London found that eating ten portions of fruits and veggies daily could prevent 7.8 million premature deaths worldwide. But if ten sounds like a bit too much for you, five portions is a good place to start.

Learn to Skype or use Twitter to help keep your brain cells young and vibrant, says the senior director for Evercare (part of United Healthcare), a group that sponsors a yearly poll of US centenarians.

Many of the older generations send e-mails, Google lost friends, and even take advantage of online dating. Researchers have concluded that using the latest technology allows us to remain socially engaged and mentally agile.

It’s always a good idea to stay connected to family, friends, and current events. It’ll make you feel relevant and vital.

  2. Are fruits and vegetables supplements good to take when someone does not get the daily requirements needed.

  3. I’m 79 but thing and feel 40. I have a personal goal to live to 108. I’m told that I look 30 years younger. My additional secrets are:
    1. Attitude Is Everything: I f you think you are old you will feel old.
    2. Daily as vigorous as possible exercise is a must. I live in a 55plus retirement village in S Florida where I have been doing my own 45 to 60 minute combination Aquafitness/ Aquarobics/AquaZumba/AquaStretch program I learned at LA Fitness over 12 years ago and it has been ever since a daily life changer.
    3. Twenty minutes post exercise relaxing and meditating in the jacuzzi.
    4. Use Medicare to your advantage and be sure to have a great local Preventative General Practitioner doctor and other Preventive Specialists as needs close by to be seen regularly to keep you going and as fine tuned as possible.
    5. Having a specific minimum age in your mind that I set as a goal to live to, in my case 108 (my goal but not a final goal). Having this goal is my daily motivator for all the above along with loving life and taking the best of care ofbour bodies. I have always been inspired by a ln obscure quotation I heard more than 10 years ago: “Take care of your body! You need a place to live!
    6. I continue to keep my mind very active as a member of the Board of Directors of two companies in the medical device field.

  4. So far so good for me. Most of my friends didn’t make it pass 50. My family have life span of 93-106. lived at their homes . Until THEY ask to go to a home to make friends I thought that was so funny. My 100 year old grandfather had girlfriends. I said OMG! LOL! Stranger yet he like weed and wine I could not stop laughing at him. He was so cool!

    1. It’s the genes that make you live longer. Period. I know old people who had old family members in their 90s and they smoked and drank, Some drank in excess. It is the genes,

  5. You should add what I call “the happiness quotient” to the list. First of all, recognize that happiness is an inside job. This quotient should be maintained at as high a level as possible. An orchid blooming at the window, always keeping a book going, a junket with a friend every now and then for lunch, visiting (and donating to) thrift stores. Maybe you should get a small dog, or a cat!

  6. I may not be a professional expert on the subject of growing old. As of now, I am 91 and still have no issues that threaten my health or long life. I live by myself, repair my own cars and other things, build computers from parts off of Ebay, and still love to travel. Not sure why, but my kids have banned me from going on the house roof to clean gutters. I listen and obey, so it just means I have to do it from a step ladder and it takes twice as long. I do make my own beer in 5 gallon batches, and try to keep 2 different styles in my kegerator. No, I can’t remember ever being drunk, and there are no plans to. I just take life as it comes, do the things I enjoy, and volunteer at the local live theater. I am active in church, but do not nag or preach to people what they should think or do. My diet usually consists of eating what I like, what’s on sale, things I raise in my garden, and often experimental recipes. My weight hasn’t changed in last 20 years, 165 lbs.
    I will admit, there are a bunch of things I will not eat. If it stinks don’t eat it, throw it out. IF I have lived to 91 without eating broccoli or brussel sprouts, maybe they are not necessary for me to stay healthy. I rarely eat out, and even rarer go to any fast food places. My blood pressure tends to run in the area of 110/60, so I take no medications for that. I suspect some of us just inherit a very good body, and all we need to do is take good care of it.

      Im 53 and had almost die about 20 times since i was a kid
      I got past 2 years through 2 traffic accidents , maybe covid sickness , panic attacks and severe anxiety attack .. avoiding medication

  7. If you snore / have sleep apnea, a CPAP will undo most or all of the problem. Snoring is caused by partially obstructing your airway. You may or may not be getting enough air. Apnea is totally blocking the airway, and generally results in you waking up briefly, ruining our sleep quality. A CPAP gives you slightly compressed air, which hold the airway open.
