Retirement in USA is free to read and supported by advertising and affiliate commissions. This page explains exactly how the site makes money and what that does — and does not — change about what we publish.
How this site makes money
1. Display advertising
We show ads through Google AdSense. Those ads are selected automatically by Google based on the page and on your browsing history; we do not choose the individual advertisers and we are not endorsing them. We are paid when ads are shown or clicked.
Ad placement has no bearing on which topics we cover or what we conclude about them.
2. Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
- Amazon Associates. We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme that lets sites earn fees by linking to Amazon.com. Product links in our articles commonly go to Amazon.
- Other retailers and services. We may earn referral fees from links to other retailers, financial services, insurance comparison services and subscription products.
We do not publish sponsored posts, paid reviews or brand-funded articles. If that ever changes, such content will be labelled as sponsored, clearly and at the top.
How to spot an affiliate link
Affiliate links generally point to a retailer such as Amazon.com. Articles containing them carry a disclosure near the top along these lines:
This article contains affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Our editorial firewall
- No advertiser influence on coverage. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we write about or what we say.
- Nothing is for sale. We do not sell placements, featured spots or positions in round-ups.
- Downsides included. Where we discuss a product or service, we say what is wrong with it as well as what is right.
- Commission does not drive recommendations. A higher commission rate is not a reason to recommend something, and we will link to a free or cheaper option where it is the better answer.
A note specific to retirement
Retirement is a target-rich environment for bad offers — annuity pitches, Medicare Advantage brokers, reverse-mortgage marketing, debt-relief schemes and outright scams that target older adults specifically. We are aware that a site about retirement money is exactly where such advertisers want to be.
Anything we recommend, we recommend on the merits. Where a category is one we consider risky, we say so in the article, whatever the advertising around it happens to be showing. If you see an ad on this site that looks deceptive, please report it to us at contact@retirementinusa.com — we can block individual advertisers, and we will.
Your data and ad personalisation
Google and its partners may use cookies to personalise the ads you see. You can control this through Google’s Ads Settings. California residents can also use the Do not sell my personal information page. See our Privacy Policy for the rest.
