Memphis, Tennessee

At first glance, Memphis seems like an ideal retirement destination. This city offers a rich cultural history, affordable living, and friendly communities. In fact, Tennessee has been a popular retirement state for the last couple of years due to its low cost of living and lack of state income tax.

But what makes this city not suitable for retirement?

Memphis’s crime rate is about 147% higher than Tennessee’s average and 224% higher than the national average. To make things worse, Memphis is at high risk of being hit by tornadoes and severe weather.

Another big problem this city is facing is the availability of healthcare. Be prepared that healthcare here is horrible. The specialist shortage and the reduced number of hospitals can make you wait months before seeing a doctor.
